2027

Chasing a memory without asking it to come back exactly the same.
Taiwan feels like chasing a memory without asking it to come back exactly the same. Taiwan 2027 is not about repeating China. It is about seeing what that old spark becomes somewhere else.
For a while I have thought of it, privately and unfairly, as “China 2.0.” I know it will not be that, and I do not want to ask it to be that. What I miss from China is the street, the noise, the history, the feeling far away, the surprise, the food, the markets, that shock of being in another world.
Taiwan might have a different relationship with history, a more modern rhythm, maybe an easier travel layer, and hopefully kindness. China was kind to me in ways I still remember, and I want to see what echoes, if anything, in Taiwan.
Thailand is body, energy, heat, social movement, and beach. Taiwan is memory, food, history, exploration, museums, and a quieter question. That contrast is part of why it keeps pulling attention.
Kinmen is the historical and military pull: museums, geography, memory, tension. My military-nerd side can have a little structured time there, as a treat, without making the whole trip pretentious.
Why these places
Taipei
Base layer: night markets, museums, transit, food, city energy, and the easiest place to start testing what this search actually is.
Jiufen
Atmosphere: old streets, lanterns, hills, cinematic walking, and a different kind of memory than a big-city grid.
Taichung
City break: food, cafés, slower middle stretch, and room for the trip to breathe without stopping.
Tainan
History and food chapter: older texture, eating as research, and the kind of place that should reward walking.
Kaohsiung
Southern city rhythm: harbor energy, bars, a different mood, and a useful contrast before or after the history-heavy parts.
Kinmen
Historical and military pull: museums, geography, memory, tension, and the nerdy part of the map looking directly at conflict.
